ABOUT

The shelter at St. Francis of Rome was founded, after many vicissitudes, in 1982 thanks to the iron will of Don Nicolino Valeri who dedicated his life to save and care for the animals and to raise awareness the younger ones to respect all living creatures.
The property must be conducted solely thanks to the love with which Peppe Conte continuously monitor the dogs accepted. Guardian Angel of the Refuge for many years and right-hand man Don Valeri, never leaves only the ns. dogs .. not a Christmas, New Year and not a even a Ferragosto away from them! He is the benchmark of all visitors, dogs and non working 30 years after the Bioparco of Rome where he learned to "listen" and understand the animals, their needs, their great need for affection. Perhaps looking a bit 'hard, but actually a heart of gold and big enough to sacrifice himself continually, and his life - in spite of everything else - for the sake of his beloved cani.Al invaluable support and solidarity of those who love animals, we owe the very existence of Refuge: food for every day, veterinary care, sterilization, reception for new guests, construction of fences and kennels, and more able, within the limits of our. possibility to ensure a decent life to our. friends.

NICOLINO DON: entire life devoted to abandoned animals and to people in difficulty

Don Nicolino - founder of the Refuge San Francisco - was born in Villa S. Giovanni in Tuscia (Viterbo), June 19, 1921. Over 55 years of priesthood, graduated in Classics in 1952 all'Unversità of Rome more than 40 years in state high schools as a professor of humanities, 50 years in township e nell’agro romano, in mezzo alla gente, e alle prese con il randagismo; ben 30 anni impegnati nei rifugi per animali abbandonati. Sempre accanto agli studenti in difficoltà.
